Ten Hag hits out at 'inconsistent refereeing' after Burnley draw

Andre Onana gifted Burnley an equaliser after he was adjudged to have fouled one of their players by smacking him in the face inside the box.

The Manchester United goalkeeper missed the ball and ended up hitting a player, prompting VAR to hand them a penalty.

Burnley scored from the spot to settle for a point each at Old Trafford this Saturday.

Recalling similar incidents where Man United were denied a penalty, Ten Hag told reporters: "It [Onana's foul] is a penalty. But, in the other box I have seen a minimum of three penalties.

"The refereeing is really inconsistent. If you take the penalty last week against Aaron Wan-Bissaka, why wasn't it today?

"There was a minimum of one penalty against [Alejandro] Garnacho."

Indeed, Garnacho was brought down by Burnley player in the first half but the referee turned a blind eye to it.

The penalty was unfortunate for Man United but they are also at fault here; the Red Devils had numerous chances to score in the first half but a collective lack of finishing let down the squad.
