'We dropped 5 points in stoppage time': Ten Hag admits top-four finish is difficult for Man United

"In this week we drop in stoppage time five points and it is very expensive," lamented Erik ten Hag at his pre-match press conference.

"The points are getting very expensive because the games are running out and we know that.

"We have to catch up and we are now many points behind. It will be difficult but we will keep fighting and I am sure that you see our team, they have character.

"We have seen an example [against Chelsea] as well. They are resilient and I am sure they will be there on Sunday in the fight against Liverpool."

Manchester United face an in-form Liverpool, who are gracing the top of the table, at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Red Devils go into this one after dropping points in the Brentford draw as well as the Chelsea defeat.

With just eight games to go, Man United are now 11 points behind Aston Villa in fourth place.

Even if they win all their remaining games, the Red Devils would still need one of their rivals to slip up to have any realistic chance of finishing in fourth place.
