Man United are still dead set on appointing Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director. However, Newcastle aren't making things any easier for them after placing Ashworth on gardening leave.
"Sticking with Man United, the negotiation with Newcastle is still ongoing for Dan Ashworth," Fabrizio Romano wrote in his column for CaughtOffside.
"It’s not been easy, as expected, but Man United are still working to have Ashworth and Jason Wilcox as soon as possible.
"This delay can of course make the process slower in terms of the club’s strategy, but the vision will always be there thanks to the co-owners and new people at the club."
The transfer window opens in less than three months, and clubs would ordinarily start making plans for the summer window already.
Ashworth, however, would be the key man for such planning at Old Trafford. Without him in place yet, United may not put any new strategy into effect.
