Anthony Taylor denies Gakpo a certain goal at 2-2 v West Ham — what happened

Liverpool drew 2-2 with West Ham at the London Stadium and one instance late in the game could have cost the Reds two points and potentially the title race.

At the forefront of it was referee Anthony Taylor, who made some bizarre decisions as usual. Let's break the incident down.

Gakpo is adjudged to have fouled Areola but Taylor plays the advantage and the game goes on.

Areola gets up and rolls the ball out. Keep in mind that the foul has not been given and the ball is still in play.

Gakpo is quick to realize that and pounces on the ball.

Taylor blows his whistle almost 15 seconds after he played advantage.

Gakpo is baffled by the decision.

Taylor walks over to Areola.

The keeper suddenly goes down and Taylor waves towards the medical staff to help out Areola.

With the ball having been in play, long after the referee waved the advantage, Gakpo was well within his rights to approach and kick the ball into the net.

For some reason, the instance confused Taylor and Areola's supposed injury allowed him to stop the game.
