Nottingham Forest accuse VAR referee of Luton sympathies after key defeat amid relegation fight

Nottingham Forest have not taken lightly the 2-0 defeat to Everton in what might be described as El Survivico or Points Deduction Derby. The defeat left Forest 17th, one point above the relegation zone (Everton are 16th, five points above the zone)

As the stakes were high, so was the price of an error, and those at Forest feel hard done by with the level of refereeing. They did not appreciate the fact that Stuart Attwell, the VAR for the game, is reportedly a Luton Town fan and Luton are Forest's direct rivals for survival.

The statement on X reads: "Three extremely poor decisions - three penalties not given - which we simply cannot accept.

"We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times.

"NFFC will now consider its options."

One of the episodes in question is Ashley Young's shove on Callum Hudson-Odoi. The latter fell to the ground following the impact, but no foul was given.

Curiously, the second episode involved the same characters. As Hudson-Odoi dispatched the ball, it struck Young's hand. However, the hand was deemed to be in a natural position, so no penalty was given.
