Al Nassr have a goal disallowed v Al Hilal before Ronaldo's red card — this may be why he sarcastically clapped the referee

Al Hilal have beaten Al Nassr 2-1 in a Saudi Super Cup semifinal, a game that Cristiano Ronaldo failed to finish due to a red card for violent conduct.

The incident happened late in the game in minute 86', but just before half time there was another episode worth scrutiny. As the score was still 0-0, Al Nassr scored a goal that the referees deemed offside. Look at Ronaldo's role in it.

As the cross is made, there are two Al Nassr players in the box: Cristiano and Otavio, the former being clearly offside.

Ronaldo fails to latch on to the cross but seems to have influenced the play with his movement.

Otavio does reach the ball and sends it home. However, since Ronaldo interfered with the play, the goal didn't stand.

Could this be part of the reason for Ronaldo's violence and a sarcastic clap for the referee later in the game? No one knows.

The fact is Al Nassr's goal was correctly disallowed, and it's also hard to make a case for an 'unfair' red card for the Portuguese, though some may try.

Al Hilal will face Al Ittihad in the Saudi Super Cup final on April 11.
