Sandro Tonali’s value revealed as he hit with fresh FA charge for placing bets

Newcastle's midfield sensation Sandro Tonali finds himself in hot water once again. Just a few months after his debut with the team, Tonali has been hit with a charge related to gambling.

Earlier the Italian Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into Tonali's activities and concluded that he engaged in illegal betting. As a result, he was handed a 10-month ban, keeping him off the pitch until August 27, 2024.

Now, Newcastle faces yet another setback as the Football Association (FA) confirms Tonali's fresh charge for betting offences during his time in the Premier League.

The FA statement reads: "Sandro Tonali has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules."

"It’s alleged that the Newcastle United midfielder breached FA Rule E8 50 times by placing bets on football matches between 12 August 2023 and 12 October 2023.

"Sandro Tonali has until 5 April 2024 to respond."

According to the CIES Football Observatory, Tonali's value has plummeted to just £34 million - a £26 million decrease from the amount Newcastle initially paid to Serie A giants due to his ban.

Newcastle reacted to the latest charge claiming that they can't comment on the ongoing investigation.

"Newcastle United acknowledges a misconduct charge received by Sandro Tonali in respect of alleged breaches of FA Betting Rules," their statement said.

"Sandro continues to fully comply with relevant investigations and he retains the club's full support. Due to this ongoing process, Sandro and Newcastle United are unable to offer further comment at this time."
