Ugly scenes marred a Serie A clash between Udinese and AC Milan. In the first half of the game in the minute 34', Milan's goalkeeper Mike Maignan left the pitch in protest of racial abuse from the home crowd.
Initially, teammates were trying to comfort the goalkeeper, but then the France international threw off his gloves and went down the tunnel.
Teammates eventually gathered around Maignan in the tunnel as he was persuaded to come back. In the meantime, the game was suspended for 10 minutes.
Racism remains a problem in Serie A stadiums. Romelu Lukaku has been repeatedly subject to racist abuse from Italian stadiums, as have Kalidou Koulibaly, Victor Osimhen, Mario Balotelli and many others.
As for the game in question, it ended in a 3-2 victory for Milan as they came back from being 2-1 down in the final stretch of the game.
