Player who almost joined Barca in January drops disasterclasses week in, week out

Barcelona probably dodged a bullet by missing out on Kalvin Phillips in January.

The defensive midfielder is having a nightmare loan spell at West Ham, delivering stinkers almost every time he's on the pitch.

His highest rating, per Flashscore, was given for his outing against Manchester United – a 6.5. He's also got two 5.4s (picking up a red in one of the games) and a 5.6. Worst loanee ever?

Moments before Phillips entered the pitch in his latest game against Newcastle United, West Ham fan Charlie Fry joked about his side conceding three in the remaining time – and that's what actually happened.

"Oh no, Phillips is coming on. 4-3 Newcastle incoming."

"Kalvin Phillips is a human being, what he needs is support and people to help him. We will support Kalvin. He's a really good player and I believe we can still make something out of the time we've got with him here," the Hammers' boss David Moyes has said.

The 28-year-old reportedly prioritised joining Barcelona instead, but the Catalans simply couldn't afford his loan.

That's what happens when your desired move collapses.
