Arteta on Gabriel Jesus citing knee surgery needs: 'To play without pain in elite sport is very difficult'

Mikel Arteta was asked about his thoughts on Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus recently indicating that he'll need to undergo knee surgery to fix a nagging issue after this season is over.

He said: "In elite sport, to play without pain is very difficult. When you play every three days, especially and the level that we play at, if you ask any player they will say that yeah, sometimes there is pain and you have to deal with that.

"Gabi has this toughness and this character that he always wants to overcome. He has overcome some difficulties in terms of injuries and he’s ready again."

This comes after Jesus produced an inspired super-sub display against Bayern Munich, providing the assist for Leandro Trossard's equalizer to make it 2-2.

Jesus has had his struggles with injuries this season, missing 13 games due to his issues. The 27-year-old forward has made 29 appearances for the Gunners so far this season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists.
