Gareth Southgate: 'Door is open for Ben White to play in Euro 2024'

Ben White stirred controversy when he requested to not be included on England's team for March's internationals.

Later, it emerged that a dispute with assistant coach Steve Holland during the World Cup 2022 left a bitter taste in White's mouth.

After two friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, Gareth Southgate is facing intense scrutiny as the Euro 2024 commences this summer.

Amid a series of injuries to defensive players, Southgate has insisted he'd welcome the Arsenal centre-back - if he wishes to join the team.

Quoted by Goal, the England boss said: "It's really for Ben now. As I've said, the door is open for us [to get him back]. 

"That's clearly difficult ahead of the Euros, when [he’s] missed all of the qualifying campaign and you've got players that have played all the way through. 

"But we have no idea of knowing who's going to be available in that area of the pitch. We’ve lost four to injury this camp.

"So, as I said, for me, it's open. I have absolutely no issue."
