Gareth Southgate receives 'boost' as Man United won't appoint next manager based on trophies

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are targetting long-term success and will avoid any quick-fix plans in their quest for a new manager.

The club will not make the new appointment based on their trophy record alone, prioritising other factors instead.

The Telegraph claims this boosts the chances of managerial targets like Gareth Southgate, who boasts an impressive record with England but don't have many trophies to show.

Southgate, who will manage England at the Euro 2024, may stay on in that job if he delivers his first trophy. If he fails though, he is expected to depart once his contract expires at the end of this year.

The report adds Man United will decide a replacement for Erik ten Hag in the summer and not before the FA Cup final.
