Revealed: why Man United refuse to pay Newcastle United £15m for Dan Ashworth

Newcastle United are continuing to play hardball with Man United over the matter of letting Dan Ashworth leave, claims the Telegraph.

The two clubs are still £13m apart on the valuation on the Englishman, who continues to serve his ‘gardening leave’ at Tyneside.

Man United are adamant about not wanting to pay over £2m compensation fee to Newcastle for them to release Ashworth immediately.

The Magpies, on the other hand, want a fee of atleast £15m alongside £5m of potential add-ons…just for a sporting director.

Man United are refusing to pay that extra amount as Ineos feels like that £13m+ can be invested on signing players in the summer instead.

Unless Newcastle relent and let him leave, then Man United are ready to wait until 2025 before appointing Ashworth as their sporting director.

For now, newly-appointed technical director Jason Wilcox has been given the responsibility of deciding the summer transfers direction and also make a decision on the future of Erik ten Hag.
