Carlos Tevez, 40, has been admitted to an Argentina hospital after complaining of chest pain.
The former Manchester United man, who also infamously represented Manchester City, has already undergone preliminary scans but more tests have to be conducted.
A statement from Independiente, the club he manages now, read: "Our coach, Carlos Tevez, went to the La Trinidad Hospital in San Isidro with chest pain.
"They carried out the corresponding tests and they were satisfactory. Today he will continue with a series of tests scheduled in advance as part of a general check-up.
"Carlos Tevez will be hospitalised as a precaution until the corresponding tests are completed."
As per the local media, the pain is being attributed to stress but there is no official confirmation on this.
Tevez lifted the Premier League twice with Man United; once in 2007/08 and later in 2008/09.
