Erik ten Hag is walking on thin ice at Man United as a case of inconsistency continues to plague the club’s 2023/24 season.
The Red Devils are still far away in the Premier League top-4 race, having an 11-point deficit to fourth place, and only have the FA Cup to play for in terms of winning silverware.
While Man United’s hierarchy haven’t yet made the decision on whether to sack Ten Hag after this season, they are reportedly keeping their options open.
As per CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs, the Red Devils currently has three managers shortlisted in their wishlist if they opt to part ways with the Dutchman anytime soon.
Gareth Southgate is on that list and is being favoured because of his strong relations with Dan Ashworth, who is likely to take over as Man United’s next director of football.
The Red Devils’ hierarchy also admire German manager Julian Nagelsmann, who is rumoured to be open to returning to club football after Euro 2024.
Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is also on their list, but he’s the unlikeliest to accept this offer after having knocked back enquiries from the club in the past.
Ten Hag is, although, quite confident of his future at Man United and needs to solidify his chances of staying at Old Trafford next season by winning the FA Cup and securing a place in the UEFA Champions League next season.
