Manchester United were hit by injuries to both starting centre-backs as they drew 1-1 with Brentford on Saturday.
The draw leaves the Red Devils with an eight-point gap behind Tottenham Hotspur in fifth, with nine games left.
Brentford were by far the better side, registering an astonishing 80+ touches in the opponents' box. They have become the first side to do so this season.
But given the number of chances they had, what would've been the fair scoreline?
Considering Brentford had a far higher xG (expected goals) compared to Man United, the answer is simple.
The home side had an xG of 3.11, meaning they should have scored at least three goals. Man United, in comparison, had an xG of just 0.51.
The Red Devils' xG stands below 1; they were lucky to have almost got the winning goal via Mason Mount.
Brentford then managed to find the equaliser but based on the number of shots they had - and the one-sided encounter - they should have easily won 4-0 or higher.
