'We conceded shots, not goals': Ten Hag insists Brentford performance won't bother him if Man United won

Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United's drab performance against Brentford would not have mattered had they kept a clean sheet till full-time.

The Red Devils conceded a late equaliser hardly three minutes after Mason Mount scored the almost-winner.

Brentford had 80+ touches in the visitors' box and also enjoyed 31 shots on target. Man United struggled particularly against players like Ivan Toney and Kristoffer Ajer.

The two starting centre-backs also injured themselves during the game. Thus, Ten Hag reckons a win would not have been so bad.

Speaking to reporters after the game, quoted by the Daily Mirror, the under-fire boss explained: "As long as we get results, no [I wouldn't be bothered]. I'll explain it once more.

"We defended low at times, because Brentford are very direct, we lost many second balls, and then you have to defend the box and that is what we did quite well.

"And we had a great goalkeeper [Andre Onana]. He was brilliant as well, so we have to say that.

"I think our results are quite consistent from January on, but yeah we concede shots. But we don't concede too many goals. And we're creating chances - with Rasmus Hojlund big chances - and we scored a goal, and it's all about bringing that over the line."

Considering Brentford set a record for the most touches by a Premier League club in the opponents' box this season, Ten Hag is wrong; Man United didn't defend the box 'quite well'.

The Red Devils have gotten off to a poor start in the final couple of months of the season, with just nine more league games to go.
