Mason Mount seems to have finally gotten his Man United career up and running after scoring a great goal in the 1-1 draw against Brentford.
The Englishman is now fully fit and free from injuries, and can definitely add something new to the Red Devils’ attack going forward.
Mount’s impressive display against Brentford has had many fans wanting him to be used more regularly going forward and his versatility definitely adds to that.
With Man United having some difficult fixtures ahead in April, here is how Mount can be accommodated into the starting XI in two ways.
Option 1: Replaces Bruno as no.10
Mount’s best position is that as a no.10 or playing just behind the striker, which he often used to do at Chelsea. With Bruno Fernandes seemingly struggling at times in that role, Erik ten Hag can perhaps make a positional change to inspire Man United.
Mount can be slotted into that attacking midfield role, as he can look to create chances and get among the goals. Bruno can be slotted back into a no.6 role and be allowed to dictate the tempo from deep as well as create chances from a deeper area.
Option 2: Same role as Brentford
What was rather intriguing is how Ten Hag opted to play Mount as a left-winger in the Brentford game. To his credit, the Englishman made more impact in that role than Marcus Rashford had for the entire time he was on the pitch.
Mount isn’t a natural winger and isn’t blessed with incredible speed, but can create chances from that role with his crosses and also get into more goal-scoring chances as he did against Brentford. He will need the left-back to, however, make more forward runs, but this can add a unique sense of unpredictability to Man United’s attacking pattern.
