Man United sustained their first defeat of 2024 in the form of a 2-1 loss to Fulham in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were really dim in the first half and did somewhat in the first half, but were unable to be clinical enough to get three points.
In the end, Erik ten Hag’s side conceded two relatively cheap goals and Harry Maguire’s late goal was not enough to give them any points.
However, despite the result, Man United actually had a higher expected goals (XG) than the Cottagers. The Red Devils had a 1.97 XG as compared to the visitors' 1.42 XG.
Man United had 21 shot attempts compared to Fulham’s 17, having more shots on target (9) than the visiting side too. The Red Devils, however, were just not clinical enough and missed a number of major chances – especially in the second half.
Harry Maguire missed an open header before his late strike and a few other attempts were scuffed by other players too. If Man United’s players were a bit more clinical – then the fair result could’ve been 2-2 and at least earned them a point.
