Erik ten Hag opted to take off both Harry Maguire and Casemiro at half-time in the win over Luton Town.
After the game, he opened up on the decision to do so and said: “I think the game was going in the direction, there was a lot of pressure on the referee, they both were a risk for another booking and we have a good replacement with Scott McTominay and Jonny Evans. So that's why we took them off, we didn't want to go in that risk.”
To his credit, the half-time substitutions worked out perfectly for Ten Hag – with Evans producing a fantastic display and McTominay doing a fine job in midfield.
More importantly, Man United did not go down to 10 men and were able to scrap out the result in the end – while also ensuring that neither Casemiro or Maguire miss the next game against Fulham.
