Can Man United sign a world-class player this January based on FFP? Answered

Realistically, Man United would not be able to sign a marquee player this window, based on the Financial Fair Play rules. But why is that so?

Well, clubs are only permitted to lose a maximum of £105million over the last three seasons. United have lost £302.3m already, particularly after spending almost £200million in the summer.

The Red Devils were fined by UEFA last year for minor Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches. The fine covered a four-year period where breaches were committed between 2019 and 2022.

United have been linked with the likes of Michael Olise, Jonathan David and other attackers so far. However, to sign a player of their calibre, the club must balance their books by selling, only be possible in the summer.

The other option could be a short-loan deal which Erik ten Hag is said to be already exploring.
