'But Ten Hag was being unfair: 'Fans react as Pep names £53m new signing 'not good enough yet'

Pep Guardiola's recent claim about his new signing Matheus Nunes got fans talking. And when we say fans, we actually mean Man United fans.

When asked why Nunes had registered just 23 minutes of action for the Citizens, Pep was brutally honest.

"He has to improve his first touch. It's not good enough yet," Guardiola said according to LiveScore.

Man United fans couldn't resist comparing Pep's words on Nunes with what Erik Ten Hag said about Jadon Sancho.

Chan-tal: "But Ten Hag was being unfair"

Fredrick Saliu: "I hope people will say Pep is throwing his player under the bus like they accused Ten Hag of."

The FPL Bois: "And no one making a big deal out of it!? Think if it's not United, it won't get you clicks!"

DefinitelyDJ: "The difference between Nunes and Sancho is that Nunes will use this to improve on himself whereas Sancho will cry about it on X."

Shreyas Bhat: "But why is he calling him out and telling it out in public? Oh, wait, that 'criticism' is only for ETH. Pep is right here, just like ETH was, and now it's Nunes' job to work on it."

This was not the first time the Man City boss has said something his players definitely wouldn't like to hear. For instance, after the World Cup, he said that Kalvin Phillips returned to the club 'overweight'.

The former Leeds man reacted like a proper professional should.

"I'd had a full day of eating and when I stood on the scales I was two or three kilograms heavier," he said as cited by MEN.

"Pep wasn't too happy which I totally agree with. So it's lesson learned and it won't happen again."
