Not Van de Beek: Man United's biggest weakness in Aston Villa defeat — shown in line-up

Manchester United slumped to a disappointing 3-1 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park this Sunday.

It was a dream debut for Unai Emery, who helped Villa beat United at their home ground for the first time since 1995.

Unfortunately, there weren't many positives for the Red Devils but the ease with which we provided gaps for Villa to exploit at the back must be addressed.

Of course, Donny van de Beek was poor on his first Premier League start of the season. But it was Victor Lindelof, who arguably was the biggest let-down.

Lindelof struggled to keep up with the pace of Villa's young forwards, which made it impossible for him to beat them.

More often than not, players like Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey exploited his weakness and broke into our defence.

The best way to deal with players like Ollie and Bailey would be to physically impose but Lindelof simply lacked the strength to do that.

His poor show also left Lisandro Martinez exposed and it didn't help that even he had an off day on the field.
