Liverpool U21s defender signs new contract after first-team breakthrough

Liverpool confirmed on Tuesday that Calum Scanlon has signed a new contract with the club.

The 19-year-old has featured twice for the Reds' first team so far, both times in the Europa League group stage this season.

The left-back joined Liverpool in 2021 from Birmingham City. He plays for the Reds' U21 side. He also represents England at the U19 level.

With Andy Robertson, Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas competing for the left-back spot, it's difficult to see a clear pathway to first-team football for Scanlon.
