'He doesn't get the credit he deserves': Wayne Rooney singles Liverpool attacker out for special praise

Even though Mohamed Salah is already one of the top five goalscorers in Liverpool's history, he is still underappreciated by some in football. At least, that's what former Everton and Man United forward Wayne Rooney claims.

"He carries the ball up the pitch, he makes great runs in behind, he scores goals and he creates goals," Rooney told Premier League Productions.

"That’s what he’s there to do. He’s the main threat. They’ve had No.9s; Roberto Firmino, Darwin Nunez. But he is the one that keeps scoring the goals.

"I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. Look at Phil Foden in a similar role.

"He’s got another eight, nine or 10 years to get to the numbers Mohamed Salah is hitting. I’d like to see him get more credit."

Salah is quietly the third-best scorer in the Premier League this season with 17 goals, only behind Erling Haaland (19) and Ollie Watkins (18) — and this is after he missed several weeks with an injury.

His goal from the penalty spot got Liverpool a point against Man United. They will hope, however, that this is the start of a big scoring run from Salah ahead of the season run-in.
