How Klopp 'unlocked' Mac Allister: explained

Alexis Mac Allister has arguably been one of Liverpool's best performers over the past couple of months.

The World Cup winner has finally been given the freedom to operate in a more advanced position. He no longer competes with Wataru Endo for the no. 6 role.

A Liverpool fan Sam Millne tweeted: "In his last 8 LFC starts, Alexis Mac Allister has 9 goal contributions. For the entire rest of the campaign, he had a total of just 3.

"In those last 8 games, Wataru Endo was the holding midfielder 7 times and Joe Gomez once.

"Unlocked."

The Athletic add that Conor Bradley's emergence has also helped unleash Macca's creativity. The Northern Ireland international's interpretation of the right-back role is different than Trent's — while the Englishman prefers to tuck in, Conor prefers to hug the touchline and make overlapping runs.

It leads to Mac Allister getting more involved on the ball. He also has more passing options on the right-hand side. In the screenshot below, Mac Allister, Bradley and Salah form a triangle on the right-hand side, creating an overload there.
