Klopp says he would let Joe Gomez take penalty to score first Liverpool goal — but there's a catch

Joe Gomez has gone 234 games in his professional career without scoring a single goal. Liverpool fans have taken to shouting 'shoot' at the defender whenever he has the ball inside or close to the opposition's box but he still hasn't found the net.

"I don’t know how I would react if he scores – it would be spontaneous," Jurgen Klopp said when asked about the defender's record.

"I would let him take a penalty, but in the 89th minute if we were winning 4-0!

"The longer without a goal, the more difficult it is. He is our protection at set-pieces. He’s not even in the other penalty area to get hit by the ball because we need his speed if the opposition clear."
