'Wild west': Klopp shares his opinion on blue cards in football

Blue cards could be introduced in football quite soon. The FA is reportedly considering trialing the new system in the FA Cup next season.

Blue cards would be given for cynical fouls and dissent, resulting in a ten-minute sending-off for a player who receives it.

Jurgen Klopp is sceptical about the idea. "It was emotional," the Liverpool head coach said about the Burnley game which saw five yellow cards for players and both Klopp and Clarets boss Vincent Kompany booked, as quoted by the BBC.

"Imagine in this game and the referee has a blue card available? It would have been the wild west. There were so many yellow cards.

"I had no clue why Vincent Kompany got it. I lost it in that situation so fine, give me a yellow card. As long as I don't get a blue one and have to sit somewhere for 10 minutes!"
