Liverpool are currently without a sporting director, with Jorg Schmadtke leaving the club after the winter transfer window. The new sporting director will oversee the search for a new head coach as Jurgen Klopp will part ways with the Reds this summer.
Journalist Ben Jacobs says that the Reds are looking at Newcastle's Dan Ashworth and has ruled out a move for Monaco's Paul Mitchell.
“I don’t think Ashworth is beyond the realms of possibility because he’s liked by Liverpool,” Jacobs said.
“I also think there’s less chance that Liverpool will come in for Mitchell because they’ve looked at him in the past and chose not to move. So, it would be surprising if they returned for him.”
An interesting move would be to re-sign Julian Ward, who left Liverpool in 2023. However, Jacobs says that he's eyed by Man United.
“I don’t see Liverpool returning for Ward because he’s left more recently. That’s a Manchester United candidate,” the journalist added.
