'It starts in school with kids': Robertson explains how viral flu affected Liverpool squad

Speaking after Liverpool’s win over Burnley about the flu outbreak in the squad, Andy Robertson said: “It’s a full squad effort, especially today with illness (and) injuries hitting the squad.

“Everyone had to step up. It usually starts in schools with the kids. They bring it home and then the adults get it then it kind of goes around the changing room quite quickly.

“We have a full week now to prepare for the (Brentford) game and hopefully the lads who have had it can come back, and hopefully no one else catches it.

“We’ll be fine (and) hopefully we go to Brentford with our strongest squad, they had a good result today and it’s never easy going to that place. We have to be at the top of our game.”

Alisson and Joe Gomez both missed the Burnley clash due to flu, but as Robbo indicates, the players are likely to recover in time for the Brentford clash at the weekend.

Liverpool will also hope that key players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai can regain fitness quickly and be back in action as the Premier League title race heats up.
