Burnley manager Vincent Kompany believes that Darwin Nunez is going to be able to realize his full potential as a no.9 very soon.
Ahead of the game against Liverpool, he said: “These types of strikers, they are top strikers. In the end, you can always have a season where you find your feet a little bit.
“The pace is always there. Does he have ability? I don’t think anyone would doubt that. He has ability. Has he got the work-rate for the team?
“Is he living it? Is he passionate about what he does for the team? I don’t think anyone would doubt that. And then whether it happens in six months or whether it takes a year or two, that’s a different discussion.
“But you worry about players when the intensity and the desire and the work-rate aren’t there. Because even at that level, you can be as talented as you want [but] you won’t survive. He has the basics, so the rest is just a matter of time.”
Nunez has the tendency to miss key chances, and even set a bizarre record against Chelsea after hitting the post four times, but has enjoyed a solid season with the Reds.
With 11 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, he’s been one of the most prolific players for Liverpool and a key reason behind the success this season.
