'Should be banned': Liverpool fans shocked by Premier League's referee selection for their clash with Sheffield

Liverpool take on Sheffield on Wednesday night and the Premier League have confirmed the referee for the game.

Simon Hooper will referee Liverpool's clash with the Blades, having already made numerous high-profile errors this season, most recently in Man City's clash with Tottenham.

Hooper played advantage and then pulled the game back for a foul against City in the dying moments of the game when Jack Grealish was clean through on goal.

Sky Sports have confirmed that Hooper will not be stood down from the Liverpool game despite his error in the City v Spurs game.

More significantly, Hooper was the referee for the most controversial game of the season when Liverpool were denied a result thanks to VAR unfairly ruling Luis Diaz's goal offside against Spurs.

Although it was Darren England on VAR duties who was the main culprit of the communication error, Hooper played his part by sending off Curtis Jones for a soft double yellow and Diogo Jota as well.

Fans have understandably been fuming with this appointment.

CuriousDuck: "Is there no repercussions for referees for failure to do their job properly?"

MyPlanC: "Let's not forget that he red carded Jones and Jota for nothing in that game."

Shaun: "Should be banned that ref"

MCJ: "You gotta be joking lol"

JustinCole: "FFS not this Disaster of a Referee pls NO I thought he was banned from Refereeing our games after the last time."
