Trent Alexander-Arnold did not operate in the same way against Man City as he had in recent months, Jurgen Klopp explained.

In fact, Trent played a lot like a conventional right-back to help deal with the danger City posed on the left wing with Jeremy Doku.

"Putting Trent in a different position defensively, plus Dom [Szoboszlai] and Mo [Salah] closing that gap in the second half gave us much more stability. From there we could play football ourselves," Klopp said after the game.

"Trent made a difference today. Before we start talking about positioning, I think it helps us having him on the right wing from time to time."

Indeed, even though Trent scored the goal from half-space that tends to be his new position on the ball, he did play a lot more often on the wing, as the touches map below suggests:
