Liverpool is keeping a patient approach in their pursuit of Southampton's James Ward-Prowse. The 28-year-old midfielder is expected to leave Southampton following their relegation from the Premier League, but potential buyers have been deterred by the club's £50 million asking price.

As the transfer window progresses, Southampton may need to lower their demands, with Newcastle United and West Ham monitoring the situation. Jurgen Klopp is keen to strengthen the midfield, having already secured the signing of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.

According to Daily Mail, despite Ward-Prowse's age, Liverpool would consider a bid around £25 million. Ward-Prowse is ready for a new challenge away from the south coast after spending his entire career at Southampton.

Having made 409 appearances for the Saints since his debut 12 years ago, the Englishman now appears destined to leave following their relegation to the Championship.

It was previously reported that there is no relegation clause in Ward-Prowse's contract, which runs until 2026. The club turned down a £25 million offer from Aston Villa last year and believe they can command a higher fee for their player.
