In a recent interview, Vincent Kompany, the former captain of Manchester City and current manager of Burnley, shared his thoughts on the toughest opponents he faced during his time at the Etihad. Kompany singled out Liverpool as the best opposition he encountered.
Reflecting on the battles against Liverpool, Kompany commended the relentless nature of Jurgen Klopp's side. "Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool was for sure the best team we faced under Pep," Kompany, speaking on The Overlap, in partnership with Sky Bet, said.
"[Sadio] Mané, [Mohamed] Salah, [Roberto] Firmino at their best – you knew if you lost the ball, the transitions would be massive for them. They were relentless, and it made them nearly as great as our Manchester City team at the time, but we just edged it."
Vincent Kompany had an impressive 11-year career in the Premier League, where he faced off against some of the world's top players. One of the most thrilling seasons was the 2018/19 campaign when Manchester City and Liverpool engaged in an intense battle for the title.
