With the January transfer window underway, a lot of focus is on the transfer market and who clubs can bring in.
However, it's also important to keep a track of the expiring contracts at the club as you never want to let a top player leave for free or get into late negotiation talks that lead nowhere.
Let's take a look at the 4 Reds whose deals are expiring at the end of this season:
James Milner
Milner has made over 250 appearances for the Reds since joining us back in 2015. However, he is no longer the valuable starter that he once was, mostly coming off the bench this season or replacing injured starters.
He's 36 now and while his experience and presence in the dressing room is invaluable, to let him leave on a free transfer next summer sounds like the correct decision. He also reportedly earns £150k a week, so his departure will free up some salary space.
Adrian
Adrian turned 35 a couple of weeks ago and his impact at the club has been minimal outside the Super Cup win back in 2019. The Reds have Caoimhin Kelleher set as the second-choice keeper, so losing Adrian isn't an issue at all.
Loris Karius
Karius' ill-fated Reds career cannot end soon enough - the player himself will be wishing for that. He has not made a competitive appearance for Liverpool since the 2018 Champions League final and he could even move away this month if the Reds decide to terminate his deal, which is reportedly on the cards.
Divock Origi
Origi will not be let go this month, that's for sure. He has made 164 appearances for the Reds and has played well this season when called upon. Origi will never be a Liverpool starter and at the moment, it feels unlikely that his contract will be extended as Jurgen Klopp admitted he was close to leaving last summer.
It will be a small blow to let a 26-year-old striker leave on a free deal, but at this point, not much can be done about it.
