RE-EMERGING STORY: Liverpool reportedly lock horns with Barcelona for Sevilla defender Carlos

Liverpool and Barcelona are in transfer fight for Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos, claim Catalan source Diario Sport. The Reds see the 27-year-old, who has received a lot of praise for this solid performances this season, as an 'ideal' partner to Virgil van Dijk.

The problem with Carlos' move to either Anfield or Camp Nou his high release clause. He is tied to Sevilla until 2024 and the Andalusian club are obliged to sell him only if a €75m (£65.9m) offer arrives.

The fee is believed to be a bit too much for Barcelona while the Reds, who paid more for van Dijk in 2018, are said to be fine with splashing the cash on the centre-half.

Carlos possesses a powerful and accurate shot:

This is not the first time Liverpool are linked with Carlos as the rumours sending him to Anfield appeared last winter.

Fabiano Soares Pessoa, who coached the centre-half at Estoril, stated that Diego would be a perfect fit for the Reds, saying that the defender's main quality is pace.

Diario Sport is a rather good source when it comes to Barcelona-related rumours so there's a good chance that Liverpool are monitoring the 27-year-old.
