BetMGM, DraftKings and FanDuel reportedly in talks with NBA over player prop bets ban

According to ESPN, NBA are currently in talks with their partner sportsbooks, namely BetMGM, DraftKings and FanDuel, over changes to betting menus for NBA games.

The talks were reportedly initiated after the Jontay Porter betting scandal. The former Toronto Raptors man was handed a lifetime ban for 'disclosing confidential information to sports bettors, limiting his own participation in one or more games for betting purposes, and betting on NBA games'.

"Since states began legalizing sports betting in 2018, we have worked closely with betting operators as well as integrity monitoring organizations to put in place essential monitoring and reporting systems so that we are best positioned to identify potential betting anomalies and to act to protect the integrity of our game," an NBA spokesperson said in a statement to ESPN.

Here are the changes under discussion:

- prohibiting betting on players on two-way contracts between the G League and the NBA;

- not allowing bets on the 'under' on a player prop.

However, the sides taking part in negotiations are worried that restricting wager types could force punters to bet with illegal bookies.
