Sandro Tonali is the latest high-profile footballer to have been involved in a betting controversy.
Through his agent Giuseppe Riso, the £52m Newcastle signing has admitted to betting on the games involving his previous club, AC Milan.
Riso said: "Sandro is playing an important game against gambling addiction - he will win this one too. 'I'd like to thank Newcastle who have always stood by Sandro. He is in shock, shaken and sad."
According to Italian media, Tonali could face a ban of up to 12 months, although it's not clear if the jurisdiction could ban him from playing in England.
Tonali's Italy teammates Nicolo Zaniolo (Aston Villa) and Nicolo Fagioli (Juventus) are also said to be battling with betting addiction. Tonali and Zaniolo were released by Italy to be probed by authorities.
