Nice defender Youcef Atal has been suspended by the club following his social media activity amid the ongoing Israel-Palestine crisis.
The Algerian is said to have reposted an Instagram story in which Palestinian preacher Mahmoud al-Hasanat asks God to send "a black day on the Jews."
The story has been deleted and Atal 'offered a public apology in writing', as per the club statement.
Atal isn't the first footballer to have made an extreme stance on the conflict in the last few days. For example, Real Valladolid's Israeli footballer Shon Weissman asked for Palestinians to be shot in the head on social media. He is expected to be brought to Spanish justice for this.
