'It's not something that daunts me': Vincent Kompany on playing in EPL

Burnley, fresh from their promotion, kicked off their "pre-pre-season training" at Barnfield. Just 29 days after their last Championship match, they were back at it.

While most players were sipping cool drinks on vacation, Burnley's Twitter admin dropped a video bombshell. First-team players were back in action at the Costa Del Lancashire. Critics chimed in, questioning their early return after a gruelling 54-game season.

However, following their successful promotion to the top tier of English football in early April, the proactive Vincent Kompany aimed to gain an early advantage.

"For us, it made perfect sense," Kompany told SPORTbible. "We were the first team to finish the season, so we had to be in. A team still needs to progress when you get promoted… and I don't see how you can progress on your holidays?"

On his emotions about playing in EPL, Vincent Kompany said: "I'm the manager now but it feels like coming home," he says. "It's not something that daunts me."
