'Have we rejected the bid? Yep': Saints’ director of football explains why they rejected West Ham's offer for their skipper

Southampton turned down West Ham's £25 million offer for their captain James Ward-Prowse. The club is looking for a higher bid, around £40 million, for their set-piece specialist. Additionally, they are holding out for £50 million from Liverpool for another midfielder, Romeo Lavia.

Jason Wilcox, Southampton's director of football, confirmed to The Sun that West Ham will need to offer more money if they want to sign James Ward-Prowse. He said: "Have we rejected the bid? Yep."

"Is there another offer? Not as I know. I think when a club makes an offer, very rarely is it their full and final offer. If we get the right offer, we will consider it. Consider is an important word because we don’t have to sell."

"We’re a big football club. We’re not going to allow players to leave if we don’t feel it’s a win-win."
