Sandro Tonali joins Newcastle, becomes most expensive Italian player ever

Newcastle have announced the signing of midfielder Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.

The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract, keeping him at Tyneside until 2028. The Magpies reportedly paid €70m for the midfielder, making him the most expensive Italian in history. The previous record was held by Jorginho, who joined Chelsea for €57m back in 2018.

Described as a mix of Italian greats Pirlo and Gattuso, Tonali combines the excellent reading of the game with the ability to win the ball back from the opposition.

The 23-year-old is considered one of the biggest Italian talents there is so Toon supporters will be excited to see him join.
