'I feel his desire to win': Lucas Digne reveals he left Everton for Aston Villa because of Steven Gerrard

Speaking in his first interview as a new Aston Villa player, Lucas Digne said: "It was the main factor. I came here for the manager, Steven Gerrard.

"I had a very good meeting with him and we spoke a couple of times during this month. I feel his desire to win, to show his football as a manager.

"He wants to implement attacking football, the possession. I feel it's what I want and what I want to show to the fans."

Digne has been a key player for Everton for the past four seasons before falling out with manager Rafael Benitez, who was sacked from the club last week.

Everton supporters would be sad to see their cult hero leave but the fact that Liverpool legend Gerrard played his part adds even more insult to injury.
