Nemanja Matic was at the centre of one pretty mad episode during Man United's defeat against West Ham in the Carabao Cup.
In the second half, the Serbian midfielder did well to block Vladimir Coufal's pass...
... after which he inexplicably kneed the opponent in the groin!
Coufal was visibly in pain but even that failed to attract the officials' attention:
The Carabao Cup fixture did not have VAR, so Matic was fortunate in that respect. However, how referee Jonathan Moss and his assistants failed to see the episode is quite incomprehensible.
It's not quite clear what the player's thinking was either, although it's easy to imagine that he was frustrated at how the game developed by that point.
The incident proved to be inconsequential, though, as West Ham managed to hold on to their 1-0 lead and progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
