Ex-Barca forward may be forced to retire at 30 – he played with Messi, Iniesta and others

Former Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu may retire from football soon due to recurring injuries.

"I've known for several months that I might never play again. I haven't been able to do what I love for a long time: I haven't played for over a year. I can't say much, but I'm going through an ordeal. You can't imagine what I'm going through. I'm trying to recover in every way, but I've accepted the idea that I might never recover.

"I had an injury in 2020, my knee was very traumatised, but I managed to recover. Then I suffered another injury, for the third time and there were complications. I can't say much, because I have an agreement with my club, but I'll just say that it's a real ordeal, you can't imagine what's happening to me.

"However, I am trying to recover in every way, but I am also preparing for what could be a post-career career."

Deulofeu is currently part of Serie A side Udinese. He enjoyed a fantastic start there, scoring 16 goals and delivering 12 assists in one and a half seasons. However, he has been out with a knee injury since January 2023.

The Spaniard's injury problems have haunted him since 2020 when he suffered a season-ending setback with Watford.

The 29-year-old, who turns 30 in March, was part of Barcelona from 2003 to 2015 and from 2017 to 2018, making 23 first-team appearances and registering four goal contributions. He played a few games alongside the likes of Leo Messi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol and others.

We're wishing Gerard Deulofeu a speedy physical and mental recovery.
