Following the signing of Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez, Barcelona’s third summer signing will be Oriol Romeu, according to Luis Red of Marca.
Barca are close to reaching a complete agreement to sign Romeu — a defensive midfielder who Xavi thinks will adequately replace Sergio Busquets.
Barcelona decided to move for Romeu after their financial struggles made the signing of Martin Zubimendi and Marcelo Brozovic impossible.
Over the past weeks, Barca have been locked in active negotiations with Girona over the transfer of Romeu.
Sources say the final fee for the 31-year-old will be between €5 and €10m regardless of whether a player is added to the deal.
Romeu started his career at Barca and made his senior debut in 2011 but he has never played for a big club since leaving Chelsea in 2013.
