Some Barcelona fans believe the club shouldn't take risks and sign another French defender – because of worrying history of having such players on the squad.

So, is our history of buying French defenders really that troubling? Let's see.
1. There have been plenty of French defenders who didn't play a lot and didn't really have the chance to meet the expectations. Lucas Digne, Jean-Clair Todibo, Philippe Christanval, Frederic Dehu, Laurent Blanc.
2. There were some massive flops too. Jeremy Mathieu, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti are the ones that come to mind (although Umtiti actually had one decent campaign here).
3. Two players met the expectations, though. They are Eric Abidal and Lilian Thuram. Both were great servants to the club, with Abidal spending his best years at Barca and Thuram helping the club a lot with his immense experience at the end of his career.
We hope that Jules Kounde, if he joins the club, enters this two-man list of players we can be proud of.
