its 2 things involved 
the way I see it

1.) he wanted to create Spainish international mini team, who plays together always in NATIONAL TEAM  & for the club, work & train together always as one family, don't forget he has wanted Azcupleta of Chelsea (Spain right back) & Gaya of Valencia ( Spain left back) too,
he might want this, because it help during his playing days .....

2.) he might have his personal reason for wanting him, because every coaches has a type of players  they want in their team...

Bringing Torres was fine, Targeting Azplicueta and Gaya is good both are great players.
But when it said Morata then I see no reason other than being Spanish
