5 under-radar players who could strengthen Barca in future

We all perfectly know our weak points in the squad – but do we actually know how to fix them? In this editorial, we've picked five players who could really help us succeed in the long term.

Some of you may have heard little about them but let us get you entertained.

Centre-back - Nico Elvedi

The Swiss centre-back is enjoying an amazing season with Borussia Monchengladbach by being the most consistent player at the back.

Why would Barca need Elvedi? He's a very versatile player who could play as a centre-back, a right-back and even a left-back. Elvedi is right-footed but he usually plays a left centre-back at Borussia.

The 24-year-old has been impressive both in the Bundesliga and the Champions League, averaging about 2 tackles, 2 interceptions and 4 clearances per game.

Defensive midfielder - Declan Rice

Apart from being a regular starter for West Ham for a few seasons already, the 22-year-old also seems to be an avid Leo Messi fan – his Twitter history proves it well.

Largely due to Rice's defensive contribution, West Ham are targeting the Champions League participation.

The Englishman averages about 2 tackles and 2 interceptions per game, and, just like Sergio Busquets, he enjoys sending long balls (2.5 per game in the Premier League this season).

Left winger - Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

I'm not quite sure whether Barcelona scouts pay attention to the Russian Premier League. If not yet, they should check out this wonderkid who's already said to be on Bayern Munich's radars.

The Georgian youngster has got 4 goals and 8 assists for Rubin Kazan this term. The 20-year-old has also bagged a great goal against Luis Enrique's side in the World Cup qualifiers.

Attacking midfielder - Jonas Hofmann

Easily one of the most underrated players in his position this season.

The 28-year-old has massively improved over the past two seasons, turning from an average right winger into one of the best Bundesliga playmakers. Hofmann has got 8 goals and 13 assists for Gladbach this season, and this despite spending some time on the sidelines.

Here are the best bits of his 2019/20 display

Striker - Dusan Vlahovic

The 21-year-old has been a true revelation for Fiorentina this season, finding the net 17 times in 35 games.

The striker is jokingly called the new Zlatan Ibrahimovic by many. The Serbian is 1.9m tall but is also technically gifted. Vlahovic can score with his left foot, with his head and he's also great at taking penalty kicks.

Just take a look at his scoring form. The boy has been almost unstoppable since Matchday 12.

Barcelona could sign both Aguero and Depay if they sell Braithwaite: RAC1 (reliability: 5 stars)

Barcelona are looking to sign a new No.9 this summer with Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay being the priority targets, Gerard Romero of RAC1 reports.

As per an earlier report from Fabrizio Romano, the Catalans are yet to decide between the Manchester City striker and the Lyon forward with the final decision due to be made in the following weeks.

Romero, however, claims that the Blaugrana could actually land both Aguero and Depay if they manage to offload Martin Braithwaite in the summer.

Memphis and Sergio are set to become free agents in June so the only thing Barca will have to negotiate with the pair is their respective personal terms.

Alaba no longer an option for Barca as he agrees 5-year Real Madrid deal (reliability: 5 stars)

Barcelona is no longer an option for David Alaba, the Catalans are out of the race, as per Sky Sports Germany. The player has agreed to join Real Madrid on a five-year deal. The contract hasn't been signed yet, but it will be in the coming weeks.

"Alaba is 99% ready to join Real Madrid," reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano said on his Here We Go podcast, as quoted by the Madrid Xtra Twitter account.

As per previous reports, David Alaba was one of the six free agents Joan Laporta considered bringing to Barca in order to strengthen the squad.
